Subject: Approval to attend International Design in Government Conference in Rotterdam
Dear [MANAGER’S NAME],
I would like your approval to attend the International Design in Government Conference in Rotterdam, The Netherlands from 18 to 20 November this year.
In 2017, the UK’s Government Digital Service (GDS) established a community of designers working in, for and with governments across the world. The international design in government community has grown to over 1500 members from 60 countries over the past two years. Its members are designers, user researchers, content designers, and accessibility experts from organisations like the U.S. Digital Service, Canadian Digital Service, Finnish Immigration Service, and Australia’s Digital Transformation Agency.
The conference is organised by the Dutch Gebruiker Centraal (User Needs First) community—a Dutch knowledge community for professionals working on (online) government services.
The International Design in Government Conference will bring together designers working in and for, governments in various countries. The conference will cover various topics including service design, user-centred design and inclusive design. The theme of the conference is share, translate and reuse. The aim is to share knowledge and reusable tools, methods, and patterns, that participants can use as soon they arrive home.
This is a great opportunity to learn from other governments and share what we’ve done in [YOUR ORGANISATION]. It’s also an excellent opportunity to showcase the work of [YOUR ORGANISATION].
It’s an incredibly valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, create connections, and find opportunities for cross government collaboration with designers working on similar challenges. The event provides a unique opportunity to develop knowledge and skills that are critical to the success of building the design capability in [YOUR ORGANISATION].
I plan to come back having learned:
- Goal 1:
- Goal 2:
- Goal 3:
The conference will be attended by 800 people: user-centred design practitioners and design and digital leadership. Attendees will be from various levels of government: central, local, as well as the wider public sector like the NHS and Parliament.
- The conference is free to attend
- Airfare/Travel: [$ IF APPLICABLE]
- Hotel: [$ IF APPLICABLE]
- Meals (lunch is provided free of charge)
- TOTAL: [$ AMOUNT]
When I return from the conference I will organise a show and tell to go over what I learned and share the opportunities for knowledge sharing or collaboration to pursue.
